Spelling Therapy
The chart to the left attempts to diagnose common symptoms of frequently misspelled words and lay them on top of the correct versions
Introduction
The goal of this site is to aide those of us who memorize words by visualizing each letter on a page with our mind's eye.
Studies have proven that people tend to store the first and last letters of a word in their brain. However, in between these letters, the brain seems to use an efficiency algorithm, calling up a list of grammatical rules and matching them with the proper sounds.
What I am trying to do with Spelling Therapy is get people who memorize words as images to associate different colors with parts of hard-to-spell words. Take the example below. The word definitely contains an i that is often misspelled as an e and an e that is often ommitted.
As time
progresses, you forget how the word definitely was spelled. All your mind's
eye sees is the first letter, a blotch of grey, a blotch of blue, a darker blotch,
and the last letter. So you begin spelling the word definitely but when you
get to defin, you aren't sure whether to add an e or an i. The picture in your
mind states that there was some blue in the word and some black later on. Realizing
that this sixth character of the word definitely is probably a trouble letter,
you decide indeed was the blue character. Blue means pick the highest letter
in the alphabet with the two possible choices presented. So you proceed with
adding an i. Now you remember that later in the word there was a missing character.
Was it an e? Yes.
